Elevation: 9550 ft / 2912 m
Degree of Difficulty:
Difficult
Time to Complete Round Trip:5 hours
Information:
This is a quick scramble, but has exposure in a few spots. Avoid this mountain if snow is present.
Where to Park:
On the Kananaskis Trail, Highway 40, park about a kilometre south of the Highwood Meadows parking lot.
The Route:
Head east/northeast. Walk up a hill and you should have a good view of the mountain. From your vantage point you will want to head up the right side of the mountain. Most of the elevation gain is by unexposed uphill hiking. Then you will have to make your way to the summit via the mountain's ridge. You will have a few exposed sections, including one breathtaking descent, the crux. Some people may turn away from this section, but it wasn't too bad on the day I was there, mainly because it was free of snow. Again, please refer to Kane's book.
Return the same way. In Kane's book he offers an alternate descent if no snow is present (refer to Alan Kane's book, "Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies").
